Default country calling code: why it matters for your ad tracking

Last updated:

Quick answer: type the calling code of the country most of your customers are in, digits only: 1 for the US and Canada, 44 for the UK, 49 for Germany. Find it in HookPage → Settings → Advanced tracking → Values and phone numbers (Pro).

What is the default country calling code?

It’s the number you dial before a phone number to call another country, without the +. HookPage uses it whenever a visitor types a phone number without a country code, like (555) 123-4567 or 07700 900123.

Why it matters

Meta and Google match form contacts to their users to measure your ads better. Meta’s rules are clear: phone numbers must include a country code to be used for matching. Without it, the phone number can’t help match the conversion to the person who saw your ad.

What HookPage does with it (Pro)

How HookPage uses your default country calling code
  1. Pre-selects the country in the country picker of your form phone fields, when a field has no country of its own.
  2. Turns visitor numbers into international format (+ and country code) before sending them, hashed, to the Meta Conversions API and Google. This applies to lead forms, orders and upsells.

The rules:

  • A number that starts with + or 00 is kept as typed.
  • Otherwise, HookPage adds your code in front and drops a leading 0.
  • The result must have 8 to 15 digits.
  • If this field is empty and a number has no + or 00, the phone is not sent to Meta or Google.

Digits only, at most 4. If there are no digits, it isn’t saved and you’ll see an error message.

Currency for event values sits next to it: type a three-letter code like USD, EUR or GBP. It’s used for the value of every conversion. If the code isn’t valid, HookPage uses USD.
