Meta Pixel ID: what it is, why HookPage needs it and where to find it

Last updated:

Quick answer: your Meta Pixel ID is a number of about 15–16 digits. Find it in Meta Events Manager → Data sources → your pixel (dataset) → Settings. Paste it in HookPage → Settings → All pages tracking → Meta Pixel ID.

What is the Meta Pixel?

The Meta Pixel is a small piece of code from Meta that you add to your website. It tells Meta what visitors do on your pages after they see or click your Facebook and Instagram ads: that they viewed the page, sent a form or bought something.

Each pixel has its own ID. The ID tells the code which Meta account the data belongs to. In Events Manager, Meta now shows pixels as datasets. The Dataset ID is the same number as your Pixel ID.

What the Meta Pixel does for your ads
  • Measure: see how many leads and sales each ad, ad set and campaign brings.
  • Optimize: Meta uses the events to show your ads to people who are more likely to take the same action.
  • Retarget: build audiences of people who visited your landing page but didn’t buy.
  • Report: see your cost per lead and cost per purchase in Ads Manager.

Why HookPage needs your Pixel ID

HookPage adds the Meta Pixel code to your landing pages for you, so you never have to edit code.

How the Meta Pixel ID connects your landing page to your Meta ads
  • Free: HookPage loads the pixel on every HookPage landing page and sends a PageView when the page opens. Your other WordPress pages are not touched.
  • Pro: HookPage also sends conversion events from your buttons, forms and timers (Lead, Contact, Purchase and more). Each event gets an event ID. If you add a Conversions API token, the same event is also sent from your server with the same ID, so Meta doesn’t count it twice.
  • Pro: add more pixel IDs (up to 10) under Advanced tracking, or give one landing page its own pixel.

Where to find your Meta Pixel ID

  1. Open Meta Events Manager and choose your business.
  2. In the left menu, click Data sources.
  3. Select your pixel (dataset).
  4. Open the Settings tab and copy the Dataset ID. It’s also shown at the top of the pixel’s Overview.

No pixel yet? In Events Manager, click Connect data → Web, name your pixel and create it. When Meta asks how to install it, you only need the ID: HookPage adds the code for you.

Don’t mix up IDs: your Pixel ID is not your ad account ID, your business ID or your catalog ID. Copy it from the pixel’s Settings tab.

Add it to HookPage

One pixel (Free):

  1. Go to HookPage → Settings → All pages tracking.
  2. Paste the ID in Meta Pixel ID, for example 123456789012345, and save.

SCREENSHOT TO ADD: HookPage → Settings → All pages tracking → “Meta Pixel ID”

More pixels (Pro):

  1. Go to HookPage → Settings → Advanced tracking → Meta.
  2. Add the extra IDs in More Meta Pixel IDs, separated by commas. Up to 10, duplicates are removed.
  3. They work together with the pixel in All pages tracking.

One page with its own pixel (Pro): open the page in the editor and use the HookPage: tracking panel. IDs there replace the site-wide pixel IDs on that page.

HookPage keeps only digits. Anything else you type is removed when you save, without a message, so check the saved value.

Check that it works

  • Open your landing page, then look at your pixel in Events Manager. A PageView should appear within a few minutes.
  • Or install the Meta Pixel Helper extension for Chrome and open your page.
