Quick answer: your container ID looks like GTM-XXXXXXX. Find it in Google Tag Manager → Workspace, near the top of the screen. Paste it in HookPage → Settings → Advanced tracking → Google → Google Tag Manager container IDs (Pro).
What is Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free Google tool for adding and managing tracking tags without editing your website’s code. A container holds your tags and the rules (triggers) that decide when they fire. Each container has an ID starting with GTM-.
When should you use it?
- You or your marketer already manage tags in GTM.
- You want to send HookPage conversions to a tool HookPage doesn’t connect to directly.
- You want full control over when each tag fires.
If you only need Meta, Google Analytics, Google Ads and TikTok, you don’t need GTM: HookPage connects to them directly.
What HookPage does with it (Pro)
- HookPage adds the GTM container code to your landing pages: the script in the page head and the
noscriptpart after the opening body tag. - Every conversion event is pushed to the data layer with a
hookpage_name, for examplehookpage_lead,hookpage_initiate_checkoutandhookpage_purchase. - Each push carries
hookpage_event_id,value,currency, and for purchasestransaction_idandnum_items.
In GTM, create a Custom Event trigger with the event name, for example hookpage_purchase, and Data Layer Variables for value, currency and transaction ID. Use GTM’s Preview mode to see the exact event names your page sends.
Where to find your container ID
- Go to Google Tag Manager and open your container.
- In Workspace, look near the top of the window: your container ID is shown as GTM-XXXXXX.
No container yet? In the Accounts tab, click More actions → Create container and choose Web. You don’t need to copy the install code: HookPage adds it for you.
Add it to HookPage
- Go to HookPage → Settings → Advanced tracking → Google.
- Paste your ID in Google Tag Manager container IDs and save. Several? Separate with commas, up to 10.
SCREENSHOT TO ADD: HookPage → Settings → Advanced tracking → Google → “Google Tag Manager container IDs”
- Each ID must start with GTM-. Anything else is dropped when you save, without a message.
- One page can use another container: open it in the editor → HookPage: tracking panel.
Avoid double counting: if a pixel or Google tag is already set in HookPage, don’t add the same tag again inside GTM. Google’s own advice is to make sure tags don’t fire twice.

Changes in GTM only go live after you click Submit → Publish. Test first with Preview.
